But what about the things we feel, rather than see? That strange tingling sensation. The occasional numbness. The “pins and needles” that come and go.

These subtle symptoms might seem like nothing at first. But when they keep happening—or stick around longer than they should—they could be warning signs of something more serious.

What’s Causing That Tingling?

While occasional numbness (like when your leg “falls asleep”) is usually harmless, persistent or recurring symptoms should be checked out. Some common causes include:

Peripheral Neuropathy

This is when the nerves that carry messages between your brain and feet become damaged. It’s a very common complication of diabetes, but can also be caused by:

Vitamin B12 deficiency

Alcohol overuse

Side effects of certain medications

Autoimmune or thyroid conditions

Patients with peripheral neuropathy often report:

Burning or tingling sensations

Numbness

Sharp or stabbing pain

A “dead” or “wooden” feeling in the feet

Poor Circulation

If blood isn’t flowing well to the feet—due to conditions like peripheral artery disease (PAD) — you might experience coldness, numbness, or aching feet. Left untreated, this can lead to delayed healing, ulcers, and increased infection risk.

Nerve Compression

Conditions such as sciatica, tarsal tunnel syndrome, or spinal disc issues can compress nerves and cause tingling that radiates down to the feet.

Why It Matters More Than You Think

Tingling and numbness aren’t just uncomfortable—they’re dangerous if ignored. When you lose sensation in your feet, you might not notice:

Cuts or blisters

Pressure sores

Infections

This is especially critical for people with diabetes, who are more prone to complications like ulcers, infections, and in severe cases, amputation. Reduced feeling also affects your balance, increasing the risk of trips and falls—particularly in older adults.

What You Can Do About It

If you’ve noticed strange sensations in your feet, don’t shrug it off. There’s a lot we can do to catch issues early and protect your foot health.

Book a Neurovascular Assessment
At Medipod Clinics, we use tools like monofilaments and Doppler ultrasound to check how well your nerves and blood vessels are working. It’s quick, painless, and could help prevent serious complications.

Track Your Symptoms
Keep a note of what you’re feeling—when it happens, how long it lasts, and what seems to trigger it. This helps your podiatrist identify patterns and make the right diagnosis.

Maintain a Foot Care Routine
Moisturise daily, avoid walking barefoot, and inspect your feet regularly for cuts, swelling, or discolouration. Prevention is key.

Your Foot Health Matters More Than You Think

Tingling, numbness, and burning sensations in your feet are never something to ignore. They may seem minor at first, but they can be early warnings of serious conditions like peripheral neuropathy, poor circulation, or compressed nerves.

The good news? With early intervention and expert care, many of these issues can be managed effectively protecting your mobility, independence, and overall wellbeing.

At Medipod Clinics, we’re passionate about looking after every aspect of your foot health. In addition to nerve and circulation assessments, we offer a wide range of treatments including:

Laser therapy for fungal nails

Management of ingrowing toenails

Removal of corns and calluses

Verruca treatments

Nail reconstruction and much more

If you’ve noticed unusual sensations in your feet—or if you simply want to stay proactive about your foot health—our experienced podiatrists are here to help.

We treat every patient with the care, respect, and attention they deserve.

For advice or to book a consultation, please call us on 01455 246100.
Whether it is due to trauma, fungal infections, or medical conditions, unhealthy nails can impact both how you feel about yourself and affect your confidence levels. At Medipod Clinics, we offer an innovative and safe solution — Nail Reconstruction using Pedisafe.

Why Choose Nail Reconstruction?

Toenail damage can occur for a variety of reasons, including:

Trauma from injury or repeated pressure

Fungal infections that cause thickening and discoloration

Genetic conditions that lead to brittle or missing nails

Post-surgery recovery or medical treatments

Nail Reconstruction provides a way to restore the appearance and function of the toenail, giving patients a natural-looking, durable solution that boosts their confidence.

The Benefits of Nail Reconstruction

At Medipod Clinics, we use Pedisafe, a revolutionary product designed specifically for toenail reconstruction. Here’s why it stands out:
✅ A Natural & Healthy Look – Pedisafe mimics the natural nail, restoring a healthy, well-groomed appearance.
✅ No Damage to the Nail Bed – The gel is flexible, ensuring that the natural nail underneath remains undamaged and continues to grow healthily.
✅ Long-Lasting & Durable – Unlike temporary nail solutions, Pedisafe is strong and resilient, allowing for extended wear without easily chipping or breaking.
✅ Safe for Nail Polish Application – Want to show off a fresh pedicure? The reconstructed nail can be painted just like a natural nail, giving you complete freedom to enjoy your favourite polish colours.
✅ Perfect for Special Occasions or Everyday Wear – Whether you want to feel confident in sandals or are preparing for a big event, nail reconstruction helps you step out with pride.

Expert Care at Medipod Clinics

At Medipod Clinics, our podiatrists ensure that every nail reconstruction procedure is carried out with precision and care. Our process involves gentle preparation of the nail and the nail bed, professional application of multiple layers of the Pedisafe Gel, curing the new nail under a UV lamp, and expert finishing for a natural look. Faye offers Nail Reconstruction not only at the clinic but also at The Secret Garden in Hinckley town centre, 3a Market Place, Hinckley, LE10 1NT

In addition to nail reconstruction, we offer a wide range of treatments to support your foot health, including laser treatment for fungal nails, management of ingrowing toenails, corns and calluses, verruca treatments, and much more.

14 Years of Healthy Feet: A Journey Through Our Foot Clinic’s Milestones & Success Stories

Fourteen years ago, we set out on a mission to help people walk pain-free, improve their mobility, and enhance their overall foot health. Today, as we celebrate our clinic’s 14th anniversary, we reflect on our journey, the challenges we’ve overcome, and the incredible patients who have made this milestone possible.

Our Beginnings: A Small Clinic with a Big Dream

Medipod was Faye’s dream—to run her own practice and make people happy! In March 2011, she opened the clinic as a sole practitioner in a single room. Over the years, Medipod Clinics has grown into a warm, welcoming practice staffed by 10 dedicated professionals offering a range of healthcare services including Podiatry, Reflexology, Physiotherapy, Counselling, and Audiology. Our goal has always been to provide easily accessible, affordable, high-quality care for the whole family in a friendly environment.

Key Milestones Over the Years

🦶 Expanding Our Services

Over the years, we’ve introduced advanced treatments to better serve our patients. From cutting-edge laser therapy for pain management and wound healing to custom orthotics and Swift microwave therapy for verrucas, we’ve remained at the forefront of podiatric medicine.

🏥 Growing Our Team & Facilities

What began as a one-person operation has evolved into a team of 10+ dedicated professionals, including podiatrists, a foot health practitioner, a reflexologist, and support staff. In 2020, we expanded our clinic space—adding more treatment rooms and state-of-the-art equipment—to enhance patient care. We’re proud to share our space with partners such as Reflexology by Maria, Hidden Hearing, Sano Physiotherapy, and Keystone Counselling.

👣 Helping Thousands of Feet Walk Comfortably

Witnessing the transformation in our patients’ lives has been one of our greatest rewards. Whether it’s a teenager receiving nail surgery for an ingrown toenail, an athlete recovering from a sports injury, a senior regaining mobility, or someone overcoming chronic foot pain, each success reaffirms our commitment to quality care.

Patient Success Stories: Walking Towards a Healthier Future

Ingrowing Toenails

We have treated patients from ages 9 to 99 suffering from painful ingrown toenails. Many have found relief through conservative treatments, while others required surgery. Although it might not seem life-changing, being pain-free truly offers a new lease on life.

Prompt Referral to the Vascular Hospital Team

When Sarah came to us with severe foot pain, our thorough New Patient Assessment revealed reduced circulation in one foot. Our team promptly arranged further investigations, leading to a successful procedure to remove a clot from her leg. Sarah is now slowly regaining her normal rhythm and is grateful for our swift, efficient care.

A Diabetic Patient Avoids Surgery

John, a long-term patient with severe diabetic foot complications, benefited from a proactive treatment plan—including wound care and custom footwear—that helped him avoid surgery and maintain his mobility.

Victory over Verrucas

Callum had battled persistent verrucas for many years, having exhausted numerous treatments with little success. Finally, he turned to our innovative Swift microwave therapy. Whether you’re a runner, football player, or weekend warrior, maintaining healthy feet ensures that you can stay active and avoid common issues like blisters, fungal infections, and foot pain. By understanding the unique needs of an active lifestyle and adopting a consistent care routine, athletes can keep their feet comfortable, resilient, and ready for every challenge.

Here’s how to keep your feet healthy and ready for action across various sports:

Field Sports (Soccer, Football, Rugby)

Cleats can cause blisters and ankle sprains. Choose snug-fitting cleats with room for your toes and pair them with moisture-wicking socks. Build ankle strength to handle quick direction changes.

Court Sports (Basketball, Volleyball)

Sore arches and Achilles pain are common. Invest in court shoes with cushioning and lateral support. Stretch your calves before and after games and consider insoles for added comfort.

Running and Track

Repetitive pounding leads to shin splints and stress fractures. Replace running shoes every 300–500 miles, trim toenails to avoid bruising, and increase mileage gradually to adapt.

Racquet Sports (Tennis, Badminton, Squash)

Quick stops and starts can cause blisters and sprains. Use shoes with strong side support, add padding for sensitive spots, and practice balance exercises to strengthen ankles.

Dance and Gymnastics

Bare feet or specialized shoes can stress toes and arches. Moisturize to prevent cracked calluses, use toe separators, and stretch daily to maintain flexibility.

Hiking and Trail Running

Uneven terrain can lead to plantar fasciitis and bruised toenails. Choose boots with sturdy soles and ankle support, use double-layer socks, and keep toenails trimmed to avoid discomfort.

Swimming and Water Sports

Constant moisture can lead to fungal infections. Dry feet thoroughly, wear flip-flops in communal areas, and use antifungal sprays as needed.

Golf

Long hours on the course can cause foot fatigue. Wear cushioned shoes with arch support, stretch your arches, and use gel inserts for added comfort.

Martial Arts and Combat Sports

Training barefoot increases the risk of cuts and infections. Keep feet clean and moisturized, inspect for injuries, and strengthen arches and toes for better balance.

Cycling

Tight cycling shoes can cause numbness. Ensure proper cleat alignment, choose roomy shoes, and use padded socks or insoles for comfort.

No matter your sport, the basics of good foot care remain the same. Stay hydrated to prevent cramps, choose shoes that fit well and suit your activity, and take the time to stretch your feet, calves, and Achilles tendons before and after workouts. Most importantly, listen to your feet. Pain is your body’s way of signalling that something isn’t right—don’t ignore it.

Your feet are the foundation of everything you do. Treat them well, and they’ll carry you to new heights, whether you’re crossing the finish line, scoring the game-winning point, or simply enjoying the activities you love most.

Whether you’re planning the holiday of a lifetime or simply spending quality time with family, it’s essential to develop a daily routine that keeps your feet in top condition. There’s no better time than January to introduce healthy habits for your feet.

Develop a Daily Foot Care Routine

Your feet work hard every day, so giving them some tender loving care (TLC) should be part of your daily routine. A consistent foot care habit not only keeps your feet looking good but also helps prevent dryness, infections, and discomfort. Here’s how to build an effective daily foot care routine:

1. Wash Your Feet Every Day

While it might seem obvious, many people overlook proper foot hygiene. Simply rinsing your feet in the shower isn’t enough to remove sweat, dirt, and bacteria. Take a moment to thoroughly wash them with warm water and mild soap.

Focus on cleaning between your toes, where bacteria and moisture tend to accumulate.

Avoid long soaks, as they can dry out your skin.

2. Dry Thoroughly

Damp feet create the perfect environment for fungal infections like athlete’s foot. After washing your feet:

Pat them dry with a clean towel, paying close attention to the spaces between your toes.

If you’re prone to sweaty feet, consider using an antifungal powder to keep them fresh.

3. Moisturize Daily

Dry, cracked heels can be uncomfortable and may lead to infections if left untreated. To keep your feet soft and healthy:

After drying your feet, apply a urea-based foot cream, focusing on your heels and soles.

Avoid applying moisturizer between your toes to prevent bacteria and fungi from thriving.

4. Exfoliate Weekly

Exfoliation removes dead skin and helps keep your feet smooth and soft. Once or twice a week:

Use a pumice stone or foot file to gently focus on rough areas like your heels.

Follow up with moisturizer to lock in hydration.

Why This Routine Matters

Making foot care a daily habit isn’t just about appearance; it’s about maintaining foot health and preventing problems before they start. Here are some key benefits:
•	Keeps Infections Away: Clean, dry feet are less likely to harbour bacteria or fungi.
•	Healthier Skin: Regular moisturizing and exfoliating help prevent cracks and calluses.
•	Early Problem Detection: Daily care helps you notice early signs of issues like blisters, cuts, or redness.

Taking just a few minutes each day to care for your feet can make a significant difference in how they look and feel. Your feet work tirelessly to carry you through life—they deserve a little extra attention and care!

At Medipod Clinics, we care about the health of your feet and always strive to provide the best advice for maintaining healthy skin. We offer a variety of treatments, including verruca management, ingrown toenail and nail surgery, plantar heel pain management, and specialized care for children’s feet and individuals with diabetes. We also manage fungal infections and provide advanced treatments with laser technology. Let us help you keep your feet in the best possible condition.

Thank you for reading this months blog, Let’s start a daily footcare routine.

Diabetes is a potentially life-threatening disease that affects over 250 million people worldwide. It affects your body in multiple different ways and can cause serious complications to your eyes, kidneys, and feet. The role of the podiatrist is paramount in the prevention of foot issues as a simple blister can lead to a chronic ulcer under certain circumstances, especially if there is reduced circulation and loss of sensation to your feet.

DIABETES FACTS

In the next 3 years the number of people worldwide who have diabetes is expected to rise to 380 million.

Up to 70% of lower limb amputations are performed on people with diabetes.

Up to 85% of all amputations are preceded by an ulcer.

Every 30 seconds, a lower limb is lost somewhere in the world as a consequence of diabetes.

What is it?

Diabetes develops from high blood sugar levels. This can cause damage to your blood vessels, affecting circulation to your feet as less blood is getting to your skin, muscles, and tissues. It also affects your nervous system in your body by stopping important messages getting to and from your brain. The longest nerves are more likely to be affected – those that reach all the way down to your legs and feet. This nerve damage is called neuropathy. Different types of diabetic neuropathy include sensory, motor, and autonomic.

What can I do to prevent complications?

If you wish to prevent foot problems, you need to manage your diabetes well by controlling your blood glucose levels, along with your blood pressure and cholesterol. A healthy and active lifestyle, especially if you are a non-smoker, can prevent or slow down any changes to the nerves and blood vessels that supply your legs and feet.

Everyone who has diabetes should also have their feet checked regularly with a healthcare professional (podiatrist, nurse or doctor) and at the very least once a year at their annual review. However, if you are at increased risk of complications, these inspections may be done more frequently.

Podiatrists can provide regular foot care by reducing the build-up of hard skin, managing your nail care, and offer advice on footwear, posture, exercises, wound management, minimise infections, circulation, padding and strapping, or any other foot related issues you may have.

How can a Podiatrist help me?

At your first appointment the podiatrist will assess your feet and check both the blood supply to your feet as well as any evidence of loss of sensation in your feet.

The assessment of the blood supply to your feet includes feeling the pulses in the feet, checking the colour, texture and quality of the skin and nails, feeling the temperature as well as asking questions about calf pain during walking. Most people have 2 pulses on their feet: one on the top (dorsalis pedis) and one on the inside of the ankle (posterior tibial). If the podiatrist cannot feel the pulses with their fingers, they may use a Doppler (hand-held scanner) to listen to them.

Sensation will most commonly be checked with a monofilament and tuning fork. The monofilament is a plastic probe that is designed to buckle at a given pressure and is a good indicator for loss of feeling.

Part of the assessment also includes any presence of foot deformities or signs of excessive loading. In this case, the podiatrist can offer advice on footwear or discuss a management plan that may involve provision of foot supports to minimise the pressure on your feet.

How serious is it? Diabetes and your feet

It is important to look after your feet when you have diabetes. Any injury or hard skin has the potential to develop into something more serious. When the skin is damaged, it may not heal so easily and sometimes this can cause an ulcer to form on your foot. Additionally, if you have lost feeling in your feet then it is possible that you may unknowingly damage your feet. You may stand on sharp objects like a nail, piercing the skin even down to the bone without realising it. If not noticed and not treated appropriately this can have potentially serious consequences and could lead to an amputation. Such an outcome is less likely if you seek expert advice from your multidisciplinary foot care team.

Let Your Feet Do The Talking This Summer!" width="350" height="250" srcset="https://medipodclinics.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Top-5-Tips-for-Your-Feet.webp 350w, https://medipodclinics.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Top-5-Tips-for-Your-Feet-300x214.webp 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px" />I can’t believe it’s June already! It will be time to splash around, and walk in the sand, feeling the warm, summer air stroking your face! I can’t wait to go on holidays!

But sun, sand and water can be harsh on your feet. Dry skin and cracked heels are a very common foot condition podiatrists see daily, especially during the summer months. This can be a result of wearing shoes that have an open back, which typically provides inadequate support for the heel of the foot. The skin can become dry, and form deep and painful cracks.

If you want to have smooth feet, simply follow my top 5 tips, and let your feet do the talking this summer!

Enjoy a nice soak! Giving your feet 10-20 minutes soak in warm water is both relaxing and beneficial. It softens the hard skin so it easier for you to remove it at the next step.

Remove any hard skin. You can use a foot file or a pumice stone to remove any hard or dry skin. Visit your podiatrist regularly to get the hard skin professionally removed and get specific advice about your individual needs.

Moisturise daily. I recommend a urea-based cream for better results, especially if you have dry or hard skin. Urea is a substance that is found naturally in the skin, which, by its nature, is very attracted to water. That is why it is a fantastic emollient that softens and smooths the skin. In the clinic, we have a wide range of urea-based creams for your feet.

Toenail care. A few healthy habits go a long way! Trim your nails straight across and file down the corners carefully. Avoid wearing nail polish for long periods of time. And finally avoid tight fitting shoes as they can cause irreversible damage to your toenails.

Sun care. Don’t forget to use sunscreen on your feet too! Make sure you reapply after swimming or sweating heavily. Sun exposure can contribute to skin cancers and premature ageing on your feet, therefore use sunscreen with 30 SPF (sun protection factor) at least.

4 DIY Homemade Foot Products You Can Try

Your feet carry a lot of weight throughout the day, and wearing shoes means subjecting them to additional pressure. It is important to rest and look after your feet.

This month I thought you might like some ideas to create your own DIY homemade foot products. An aromatic foot bath, a glorious foot scrub, a soothing moisturising foot balm and a refreshing foot spray! You can always be creative and prepare your DIY foot remedies from the comfort of your home to take extra care of your feet.

Let’s put a smile on your feet and start mixing!!

Aromatic Foot Bath

A homemade aromatic foot bath is a wonderful DIY spa experience! Soaking your feet takes away the tiredness and swelling fast and leaves you feeling relaxed and ready to face the next day. Soak your feet for at least 10 minutes a couple of times a week for best results.

Ingredients

Epsom salts. They reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and eliminate odour.

A few drops of tea tree oil, maybe even peppermint oil and rosemary. Tea tree oil helps to soften calluses, while peppermint oil and rosemary soothe cracked, dry skin.

Lemon peel and citrus essential oils. The citrus essential oils and lemon peel will leave your feet smelling wonderfully fresh and clean.

A Glorious Foot Scrub

This scrub is great for tired feet and is suited for all skin types. But remember to do a patch test with the foot scrub to check for allergic reactions, especially if you are using essential oils.

Massaging your feet with a scrub regularly boosts blood circulation and soothes foot pain. It also relaxes your mind and body and helps to relieve stress. It makes your feet look amazing as the foot scrub gently exfoliates and removes all the dirt and dead skin cells.

Ingredients

1 cup Epsom salts

1 tablespoon of olive or coconut oil. Coconut and olive oils soften the feet and moisturize them.

3-4 drops peppermint oil. Peppermint oil relieves aches and pains and smells fresh.

Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl and transfer to a glass jar. Scrub your feet for 10 minutes with this mixture. Leave it on for another 10 minutes if you wish. Wash your feet afterwards and follow up with a moisturiser. It’s bliss!

Mum’s Foot Balm

This foot balm has special meaning to me as it was my mum’s creation when she had her own Podiatry practice in Greece.

It smells very fresh and moisturises your feet beautifully! It is easy to make and is also great for your hands! You just mix everything together and transfer into a glass jar. A little bit of this beautiful foot balm goes a long way!

Ingredients

Vaseline. Petroleum Jelly forms a protective layer on the skin therefore it helps to heal cracked and dry skin.

Nivea cream or lotion. Highly moisturising and helps to hydrate the skin.

A few drops of tea tree oil. Tea tree oil has antiviral and antiseptic properties, so it reduces inflammation and fights the infection of fungi or bacteria.

Refreshing Foot Deodorant

My last recommended DIY foot product is your own foot deodorant. This antiperspirant is alcohol-based, so it evaporates quickly and doesn’t leave any residue on your skin.

Ingredients

1/4 cup distilled water

1/4 cup clear alcohol (e.g. pure vodka or gin). The alcohol stops the bacteria on your skin to cause a bad odour when you are sweating.

A few drops of sage essential oil. Sage essential oil has strong antifungal, antimicrobial, antibacterial and disinfectant qualities.

A few drops of lemongrass essential oil. Lemongrass essential oil is incredibly fragrant and refreshing and helps combat sweaty feet.

At Medipod Clinics we take great care of your feet. Our experienced staff will treat your feet with the respect and attention they deserve. Give us a call today on 01455 246100 to chat through your needs.

We offer a very wide range of treatments such as verruca treatments, ingrown toenails management, fungal infections treatment, heel pain management, diabetic footcare and sports injuries management. I can assure you that we will do our best to exceed your expectations.

Toenail Fungus. One Step Ahead. There are plenty of home remedies, but they don’t seem to work. And a true nail fungus doesn’t just go away on its own.

Fortunately, the team at Medipod Clinics can address any nail fungus issue you may have with a diverse menu of treatment options. We customize our approach to your infection’s history and severity.

How fungi infect the nail?

Toenail fungal infection, or onychomycosis, is an invasion by a microscopic organism that thrives in damp and warm environments. Fungal spores are in the air, and they can easily grow if they land on a surface like your toenail. They feed off the nail tissue, burrowing into the skin under the nail. Over time, the nail thickens and may lift off the nail bed as fungal debris accumulates. Once your nail is raised off the nail bed, it won’t reattach, and it becomes even harder to get rid of the fungal infection.

But is it fungal or not?

Several different conditions can masquerade a fungal infection. As we get older, the nails thicken and become more yellow. Psoriasis can cause pitting and flaking of the nails. Injuries can create bruising under the nail. Even chemicals in nail polish can discolour and damage the nail. But you don’t want to wait until your nail is gnarly and raised off the nail bed. You should see a podiatrist as soon as you notice your nail changing.

At Medipod Clinics, we can successfully test and diagnose the presence of fungal infections. The Dermatophyte Test Strip (DTS) is simple, accurate and shows results in just under 5 minutes! It can be performed as part of your podiatry appointment and offers a reliable diagnosis. This will enable your podiatrist to start the right antifungal treatment immediately without having to send clippings to an external laboratory. Your GP will also be informed of your results as systemic medication may be needed.

Toenail Fungus Treatments

There are numerous treatments for fungal infections, which vary widely in cost and effectiveness. To be fully effective, the antifungal agent must penetrate the nail and often the nail bed as well.

Over the counter products

These are widely available. They don’t promise a cure but some of them can certainly improve the appearance of the nail by changing the pH of the nail, therefore making it difficult for the fungus to survive.

Prescription topical treatments

Effective products include Tolnaflate, Clotrimazole, Terbinafine and Amorolfine. All require daily applications, and it may take as long as 1-2 years to see noticeable results. These products may work for early, superficial fungal infections, because they kill the fungi on the surface of the nail. Reducing the thickness of the nail regularly may enable them to penetrate more deeply into the nail or the nailbed. Even then, the success rate is quite low.

Oral medications

Intraconazole (Sporanox) and Terbinafine (Lamisil) are usually considered for extensive fungal infections. Either of these drugs are very potent and may harm the liver, therefore your doctor will check your liver at the beginning of the treatment and again after a few months. Intraconazole interacts with several other drugs. If you take one of these drugs, you’ll also need to avoid drinking alcohol and stay out of the sun. It is best to discuss your individual case with your doctor before you decide to take oral antifungals.

But it is not all doom and gloom! Lacuna Method can help!

Have you heard of the Lacuna Method for the treatment of fungal nail infections? At Medipod Clinics, “we have had some amazing results in just under a year”, Faye says. Lacuna method is all about making tiny holes along the surface of the nail so that the antifungal agent (Lamisil spray) can successfully penetrate and reach the nail bed, where the active infection is. The Lamisil Spray will spread under the nail as you walk and with daily application the fungus is stopped from spreading and the damaged nail grows out.

The process is safe and pain-free! Review appointments are recommended on an average 6-8 weeks; however, this may vary, and your practitioner will advise you.

Have realistic expectations

Don’t expect any product to give you toenails like those in the advertisements. However, if you adopt a daily routine of washing and drying your feet thoroughly, and follow the advice given from your podiatrist, you should see a distinct improvement.

If you are experiencing any discomfort in your feet, we are more than happy to help. Give us a call today on 01455 246100 to chat through your needs.

We also offer treatments for nails, hard skin, ingrown toenails, and advice for people with Diabetes. With our expertise and experience, you will have full peace of mind when it comes to your foot health.

For more information about our range of treatments, please contact us on 01455 246100. We would love to help you with any foot health issues you may have.

New Year’s Resolutions: Let’s Put a Smile On Your Feet

So, as well as vowing to watch less television or keep on top of the dishes this New Year, make sure you put the comfort and wellbeing of your feet on your list of resolutions too.

We’ve put together a few ways that you can start giving your feet the star treatment in 2022!

Pamper and Moisturise

Who doesn’t love to feel pampered now and again? And our feet are not to be missed when it comes to soaking our troubles away.

For baby-soft feet, exfoliate using a scrub. Most of us have dry and cracked feet because we don’t take care of them. Dead skin can be uncomfortable, but regular exfoliation will get rid of the dead skin and result in softer and smoother feet.

Moisturising is also the key to maintaining silky-smooth feet. Just before bed, apply a moisturising cream (preferably at least 10% urea based) or body butter, and then pull on a pair of socks. You’ll wake up with noticeably softer feet.

Need some moisturiser recommendations? Check out our range of creams that your feet will thank you for.

Buy a New Comfortable Pair of Shoes

It’s time to put aside that old, worn pair of shoes you’re attached to because they are ‘comfortable’. The new year is about starting afresh, so now’s the time to invest in a new pair that are comfortable, but also supportive.

Comfortable doesn’t have to mean old-fashioned! There are plenty of shoes out there that are both attractive, fashionable, comfortable, and supportive.

We can advise on a range of wider fit shoes that are extra roomy, comfy and suitable for a range of occasions in an array of styles – just ask one of our podiatrist for further details.

Don’t Ignore Foot Problems

Medical professionals can sometimes describe our feet as ‘windows’ as they can often indicate a health problem elsewhere in the body.

It’s for this important reason that your final New Year’s resolution for your feet should be that you get any unusual foot problems checked out by a GP or your podiatrist as soon as possible, as it could be an indication of something bigger.

Some common symptoms to be aware of include: a swollen toe, which could indicate gout or infection; your nails turning club-shaped, which could point to a lung condition; sore toe joints, which could signal rheumatoid arthritis as well as ulcers and numbness which could be a sign of diabetes.

Start Doing Foot Exercises and Stretches

A lot of people make New Year’s resolutions to exercise more, but let’s not forget about exercising our feet! Doing some foot exercises and stretching out our lower muscles from time-to-time is a great way to encourage good blood flow and can help alleviate any pains and discomfort.

We recommend some easy exercises that you can do in the comfort of your own home, minimum 3 times a week, such as heel raises, and calf stretches.
