Skin Tags (Acrochordon)

SKIN TAG REMOVAL

Skin Tags (Acrochordon)Skin tags are small growths that tend to hang off your skin. Skin tags come in different variations of your skin colour and vary in sizes from a few millimetres up to 5cm wide. They are made of loose collagen fibres and blood vessels surrounded by skin.

Skin tags tend to grow in the skin folds, where the skin rubs against itself. That’s why they are usually found on the neck, armpits, around the groin, and under the breasts. They can also grow on the eyelids or under the folds of the buttocks, or behind the knee. They are completely harmless and do not usually cause any pain or discomfort.

There are different ways to get rid of a skin tag such as cauterization, freezing, ligation or excision. Never attempt to remove large skin tags yourself because they’ll bleed heavily.

The procedure takes only a few seconds and there is hardly any bleeding

Skin Tags (Acrochordon)In the clinic, we may use local anaesthetic or local anaesthetic cream to either surgically remove your skin tags or burn them off using electrocautery. The procedure takes only a few seconds and there is hardly any bleeding. There may be some scabbing following the procedure, but that will reduce within a few days.

Please note that Podiatrists can only remove your skin tags if there are below the knee joint. For all the skin tags in the rest of the body, a doctor with special interest in Dermatology is providing this treatment for us in the clinic.
